Singapore's Emphasis on Social Integration For All

singapores emphasis on social integration for all

Social integration plays a significant role in the successful transition of new permanent residents into Singaporean society. As a diverse and multicultural nation, Singapore offers a vibrant cultural sector that fosters social connections and interactions among its residents. Embracing the local cultural sector not only enhances one's cultural experiences but also helps in building a strong network of like-minded individuals, including both Singapore permanent residents and citizens. By actively participating in cultural activities, community events, and social initiatives, permanent residents can make significant contributions to Singapore's society while also enjoying a sense of belonging.

Introduction to the "PR Journey" Initiative

Recognising the significance of this transition, a new pilot initiative called the ‘PR Journey’, led by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) has recently been launched. Tailored to seamlessly integrate new Permanent Residents into the Singaporean community, the programme aims to facilitate their adjustment to life in Singapore while nurturing local connections.

Drawing on insights gathered from current PRs, the programme offers an array of invaluable resources encompassing Singapore’s diverse culture, lifestyle, social norms, and community engagement opportunities. This initiative underscores a collective commitment to empowering newcomers with the essential tools and support vital for their successful integration into their new home.

Successful PR applicants (aged 16-60) will be randomly selected to embark on this enriching journey. Upon receiving their In-Principal Approval (IPA) letters, they can then access the PR Journey portal using the provided login credentials.

This pioneering initiative marks a significant leap towards fostering inclusivity and cohesion for new PRs, ensuring they thrive in their new home and towards a fulfilling transition.

Learn More About Singapore's History, Shared Values and Way of Life

The PR Journey comprises 2 components: (i) an e-Learning Module and Quiz on life and living in Singapore; and (ii) a Community Activity segment where participants can engage with the local community. Both components are to be completed within 2 months from the date of issue of the In-Principal Approval (IPA) letter, and before booking an appointment to complete singapore permanent resident formalities with ICA.

To complete the e-Learning Module and Quiz, participants are required to read an e-book before accessing an online quiz via FormSG. The passing grade is 80%, and participants can reattempt the quiz until they achieve a score of at least 80%. Results will be available on the PR Journey portal within 1 week.

For the Community Activity component, participants are required to sign up and complete at least 4 hours of activity. They may participate in one or more activities and/or courses under different providers to accumulate the necessary activity hours. Providers include OnePA, Team Nila, and SG Cares. These activities or courses range from free to paid and encompass sports, fitness, skill-building, and volunteering opportunities. Any costs incurred shall be borne by participants. Participants must also submit an Activity Submission Form for each activity. Upon completing the PR Journey, participants will be invited to complete an online survey. Feedback is anonymous and will be valuable in shaping the programme for future participants.

Given that the PR Journey is a new pilot programme, selected applicants are strongly encouraged to participate before completing formalities with ICA. Nonetheless, applicants unable to complete the PR Journey due to personal circumstances such as medical reasons or overseas travel may still proceed with formalities with ICA.

In such situations, applicants may consider requesting an extension for the PR Journey deadline by emailing pr@sgjourney.gov.sg with their full name and Application ID. Upon approval, they can embark on the PR Journey.
